Feature 35 - Formulas


One of the most powerful features of Excel are formulas.

These allow you to change a value and let Excel automatically recalculate all the numbers.

Formulas start with an "=" sign and reference cells like A1, A2, B3, AB7 and use them in a calculation.


B2: =A2+1

The above if entered in cell B2 adds 1 to the value in A2

Formulas can also use functions and that's where the real power comes from.

For example

B2: =SUM(A1:A7)

will add all the numbers in cells A1, A2, A3, A4, A5, A6, A7
